Establishing the mood with a short riser and sensual hybrid-R&B meets soul frequency with padded drums, we are already hypnotized by Gemïny‘s debut single, Too Close.
The song expands into a fierce, soulful pop vibe energy with intricate production touching upon the theme of a toxic relationship that must come to a close.
Lyrical highlights include the conceptual “Russian roulette love for the taking, hope your names on the bullet…”, the introspective “swear that we’re meant to be, that I’m just too blind to see”, and the captivating hook “Push you to the limit, tell me that you’re finished (Girl), telling you you’re getting Too Close…”
Speaking on the meaning of the track, Gemïny profoundly says it’s about a “Young artist rehashing the the events that warped a simple situation-ship into a destructive one-sided relationship.”
He adds that it is about “Replaying the imagery of a crushing car crash. Singing desperately to separate his actions from the consequences as multiple voices and haunting harmonies gradually layer on top of each other into a cataclysmic ending.”
We are obsessed with Gemïny‘s flow, layered vocals and the out of this world production. Gemïny teamed up with producer Joshua Florez to conjure the “theatrical and chilling” energy that we experience.
The add libs are super dimensional and there are elements of 80s and also early 2000s in the opus. Gemïny cites Hayley Williams, Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson and Usher as some of his influences, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.
We have added Too Close to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we wait for more releases from Gemïny!
