Establishing the mood with a progressive disco-hybrid-synth pop energy featuring celestial detailing, future.exboyfriend open their new single, Molly, with the intimate lyrics, “It’s just me and you for miles like a dream, catch me daydreaming that I was a teenage fantasy…”
future.exboyfriend is an indie-pop project based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Molly is the first single from their upcoming album High at the Gym and, according to the rising trio, is about “falling in love with a stranger at a music festival even though you have never actually talked to them or even know their name.”
We love the way that band members Tyler Harris, Isaac Paul and Josh Arena build the narrative of the song, fused with luscious falsetto melodies, and immersive soundscape and poetic nuance.
The trio tells us that future.exboyfriend is an exploration of the glistening highs and overwhelming lows of self-identity. They cite MGMT, Tame Impala and Prince as artists that fans might also appreciate, but it is clear that Tyler, Isaac and Josh are creating a universe of their own.
It is no surprise that they have shared a stage with Pinegrove and Remi Wolf and have already performed at Treefort Music Festival, UMS Festival and Kilby Block Party.
We have added Molly to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we explore the wider discography of future.exboyfriend including Happy to Pretend.
