Establishing the mood with echoing textures and keys elegantly fused with guitar, Bonded Jacky opens her single Didgeridoo with atmospheric vocals as she sings about Joshua, her late friend.
The LA-based musician, self-described as “a gangly girl with schoolboy energy” reminisces in her lyricism about how her late friend has been before the song expands and transforms from an ethereal energy to a folk-pop hybrid frequency.
Speaking on the meaning of the song, Bonded Jacky confesses, “Didgeridoo is a song about losing someone and the stages of grief that come along with it — it’s complicated. Sometimes it’s heart-wrenching and heavy and other times it’s joyous and filled with wistful memories. The feeling of grief never goes away, but you learn how to live with it. This song is filled with my nostalgic childhood memories of my late best friend Joshua.”
Taking us on an authentic and emotive journey with introspective and warm lyricism, Didgeridoo is Bonded Jacky‘s fourth single of 2022.
The abrupt musical shift is designed to mirror the emotional shifts that come with losing someone. Bonded Jacky cites music influences including Clairo, Japanese Breakfast, Phoebe Bridgers, Maggie Rogers and Courtney Barnett, although it is clear that she is creating a universe of her own!
We have added Didgeridoo to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Bonded Jacky‘s wider discography including Okay and New Kind of Love.
