Establishing a mood with panning, glistening synths, Maddy Carty opens her song, Future Daughter with the emotive lyrics, “They’re spending so much time worrying about my size, ’bout the clothes I wear, the gap between my thighs, whatever…”
Future Daughter expands with clicks and introspective lyrics from Maddy Carty as she longs for “something better”. Speaking on the meaning of the song, Maddy says, “I wrote this at a time when there was a lot in the media about women’s equality, LGBTQ rights and the #MeToo movement, and there was progress being made.”
She adds, “But it also feels like there is still a long way to go. Future Daughter is a kind of love letter to all the future daughters, hoping that things can get better for them when their turn comes.”
Maddy Carty has a powerful voice, in sentiment and sound and we are grateful for her perspective and futurism, seeking to “change this world” and make our society a better place.
Maddy also writes for other artists and producers and has cuts with many labels including Warner, Spinnin’, SKY/SATV and many more. You may also have heard one of her songs on Sky Sports’ “Legendary” Boxing advert in 2021.
Future Daughter also comes with a music video featuring activism and protest, an epic performance from Maddy herself and moving scenes with mother and daughter and a pregnant silhouette. The lo-fi but high impact visual was directed by Charlotte Groves.
We have added Future Daughter to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Maddy Carty‘s wider discography including Endlessly.
