Setting the tone with epic synth-strings and celestial details, expanding with a riser into an immersive moody synth pop soundscape, we are already obsessed with Foe‘s new single, Diamonds.
Featuring vocals from Alina Valentine, the song evolves with poetic and introspective lyricism, “When will I know if I’ll be, a diamond or just a brick, the answer lies in the sea… we’re like diamonds, we shine the brightest…”, to deliver an emotive, high concept narrative about making it as an artist.
The output is optimistic and dimensional. We love the vocal production, detailing, the guitar solo is out of this world, the entire soundscape has us floating in the astral realm.
Speaking on the creative process, Foe, who wrote and produced the enigmatic bop confesses, “The idea for Diamonds came to me one night while I was watching a YouTube video regarding music composition and trying to follow along.”
They continue, “I spent hours trying to make a specific chord progression work with a melody I came up with. I failed miserably. This experience made me appreciate how long the road for making good music truly is. I realized that those artists who walk the road and reach its end are truly special. I wanted to write a song about my journey and how these talented artists inspire me to try and be better in each release.”
Foe cites Night Club, Empathy Test, MGMT and Depeche Mode as similar artists, but it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own.
We love the intention and authenticity that Foe is creating with. Elaborating on their intention and personal history, Foe, who is based in Tel Aviv says, “Left my job at 30 while dealing with Crohn’s disease to follow my dream of making music. Currently, the subjects I focus on in my music are mostly self esteem, living up to your potential and extreme physical pain.”
Transferring their pain into songs that can amplify healing in the wider collective is a great purpose for an artist, and we have added Foe and Alina Valentine‘s collaborative composition to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we stream their wider discography!
