Setting the tone with an enigmatic and enchanting alternative rock soundscape, Birdeatsbaby open their brand new single, Ribbons with the introspective lyrics “She tore me to ribbons, guess that’s all I am, heaven sows the seeds of light, I just turned and ran, a halo, light tripping, I’m absolved of a thousand expectations…”
Poetically and in a unique manner, Ribbons minimizes in production delivering a nuanced and mysterious edge before expanding back into the main body of the song. We are fully hypnotized by not only the atmospheric vocals, but the prowess of the magnetic performance.
Ribbons is the first single from Birdeatsbaby‘s occult album, HEX, described by the rising band as “a dark progressive lullaby that drifts from delicate melodies into heavy crescendos.”
Birdeatsbaby is a group of multi-instrumentalists that blend elements of rock, classical and metal to create a sound that’s striking and unique. Their previous releases have been produced by Paul Reeve of Muse fame and John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails…). Recently, one of their songs featured in ‘Close to Me’, in the hit Channel 4 thriller starring Connie Nielson and Christopher Eccleston!
Ribbons comes with a cinematic visual showcasing shibari ropes set in a film noir environment that has us totally transfixed, and features an epic performance from the band. Fans of Opeth, Spiritbox and Deftones will definitely be able to connect with sounds, but also perhaps fans of Bjork, either way, it is also clear that Birdeatsbaby are creating a sonic universe of their own.
The single comes out in five days, and we will be adding it to our New Music Spotlight playlist, meanwhile, we are streaming Birdeatsbaby‘s wider discography and watching the music video for Ribbons on repeat!
