We recently featured Andrew Narvaez for his collaboration with Walt Miller on the emotive and anthemic, RIDE OR DIE, so we were thrilled to hear that the rising artist from Old Bridge has just released the brand new BETTER WITH MY FRIENDS.
Opening with intricate electric guitar details that expand into an atmospheric echo, Andrew kicks off BETTER WITH MY FRIENDS with the assertive lyrics, “Yeah, I don’t even care that you don’t like me, I’m going out and I don’t care ’bout who I might see, you can call me but an answer isn’t likely, cos a memory’s worth more more and I’m better with my friends…”
The song, which also features artists Crooked Hill and Charles Infamous, expands into an alternative hip-hop soundscape, with a lot of soul and warm melodies. The featured verses are also full of wisdom and authenticity, as the three creators assert their boundaries and choose friendships, over potentially toxic romantic scenarios.
We love everyone’s flow on the record, the speed and delivery is progressive, expansive and conscious. The trio tell us that the track was inspired by the summer sounds of Surfaces, Tai Verdes and other pop artists, but it is clear that they are creating a soundscape of their own.
Elaborating on the meaning of BETTER WITH MY FRIENDS, Andrew says, “The concept is surrounded by the idea of not letting people get to you and living life fully with the people that mean the most to you. At the end of the day, everything is better with friends.”
Andrew Narvaez and Crooked Hill are college roommates at Cairn University in Langhorne Pennsylvania. This song was certainly fitting as a collaboration, considering their strong friendship. Charles Infamous entered the picture as a friend of Andrew, meeting through a mutual friend, recording artist .irg.
We have added BETTER WITH MY FRIENDS to our New Music Spotlight playlist and continue exploring the catalogues of all three artists.
