Setting the tone with a pulsing metallic synth, evolving into textured drums with electric guitar details, North Ship open their single, Plastic House with the conceptual lyrics, “There’s all you need in this Plastic House, but don’t expect to see changed ways…”
Expanding into a new wave meets alternative rock frequency, we are hypnotized by North Ship‘s blend of electronics and live guitar, with drums and vocals on the composition.
Speaking on the meaning of Plastic House, the band says, “The song is really about trying to decide who you are. If you like Bowie’s Blackstar period, Arctic Monkeys and 90s-influenced alternative rock, there’s a good chance you’ll like this song.”
We can feel the influence of Bowie and Arctic Monkeys on the track, but it is also clear that North Ship are creating a universe of their own. North Ship has existed in various forms since 2013. The style has evolved from quiet, atmospheric acoustic-based songs featuring a cello, double bass guitar with no drummer to its current line-up. Live, North Ship perform to backing tracks mostly created on Logic and an Elektron Octatrack, which is an eight-track sampler.
We love the cerebral depth of Plastic House, which is enigmatic, atmospheric and immersive. North Ship are excited about their new direction, and confess, “It’s been a huge challenge creatively to use a sampler and a sequencer, and make live drums and guitar feel an organic part of the music rather than something sitting on top of some pre-recorded sounds. The marriage of electronics and a more classic guitar and drum-based attitude has been very inspiring.”
To no surprise, North Ship‘s previous single, Green Light has over 140,000 streams to date! We have been streaming their wider discography and have added Plastic House to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
