We recently featured Robbie Rapids for his moving, narrative-driven debut single, Who Shot Them Down, so we were thrilled to hear that the rising artist had just released the brand new, Adolescent Lover.
Immersing us with a luscious alternative rock frequency featuring a mandolin, Robbie Rapids opens Adolescent Lover with narrative-based high concept lyricism as he reminisces over his teenage life growing up. Touching upon themes of love, the human condition, life, adventures, his car and girlfriend, Adolescent Lover makes for a classic piece of rock history with Robbie’s anecdotal form of story telling.
Elaborating on the detail, Robbie says that Adolescent Lover started as “a poem on the back of my pay-check from the 90s turned into a full song memory”. He expands, “(The) song starts about my car, girlfriend of a couple years, issues we had in relationship, how we should have left life difficulties to God instead of stressing over them, and finally me letting go cause life moved in different direction.”
When discussing the soundscape of the track, Robbie confesses, “This song is most similar to Nick Lowe’s Cruel to be Kind, Mott The Hoople’s All The Young Dudes, and Soul Asylum’s Runaway Train, although it is clear that Robbie Rapids is creating a sounds of his own with his collaborator David Levene.
We love the vibe that Robbie Rapids has created with a sense of nostalgia and authenticity, luscious harmonies, driving guitar, intricate mandolin and charming lyricism.
Adolescent Lover has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Robbie Rapids‘ debut single Who Shot Them Down.
