Setting the tone with textured drums and an enigmatic sitar, we are already hypnotized by The_Meskimo‘s new single, The Brothers McKenna Drop Out.
The opus expands with psychedelic synth detailing and a dynamic bass, which fused together really deliver an out-of-this-world sonic experience. We are in awe of the intricacy and the transcendental nature of the composition, and we feel like we have been projected to the astral realm.
The Brothers McKenna Drop Out is a tribute to Terrence and Dennis McKenna and their contributions to the psychedelic community and to their contributions to the medical studies of the benefits of psychedelics in treating numerous mental health issues.
Speaking on the release, The_Meskimo says, “This song is meant to emulate the passion and energy of Terrence’s lectures, a psychophony. Terrence was a great lecturer with the ability to captivate you and open new doors of thought and ways to perceive the world.”
The genre expansive rising artist adds, “I was raised listening to psychedelic bands that my dad was fond of and I continue to be a fan of the many different bands that are currently creating in the genre. This song is meant to draw comparisons from classic psychedelic bands but also retain the feeling of being fresh and new. “
The_Meskimo cites Little Feet, Pink Floyd, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Queens of the Stone Age and Alt-J as some of his influences, but it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own!
He leaves us with the sage advice, “For those that partake in the consumption of psychedelics, this song can be listened to while in the early stages but is highly recommended to be heard at the peak.”
We know what we are listening to next time we connect with DMT, acid, blue lotus or mushrooms! Meanwhile, we have added the brilliant composition to our New Music Spotlight playlist and continue streaming The_Meskimo‘s wider discography!
