Setting the tone with rising metallic textures and industrial bass synths fused with enigmatic pitched vocal samples, we are already obsessed with the Capshun Remix of Aurelia‘s single Wax.
Taking on a more subversive edge from the original, the remix takes on a haunting energy, adding deep percussive rhythms and punching 808s to the already hypnotizing vocals and profound lyricism, along with the moody keys that were the original foundations of the song.
We love the glitches and cosmic nuances, the down pitched vocals, the psychedelic vocal sampling and how cerebral the song has become.
Some lyrical highlights from Aurelia include the opening prose, “Drowning my feelings, glass to the ceiling, my mind can’t stop reeling, your knife in my vows…” and the vulnerable “So watch me while I drown, my feet won’t touch the ground, move like the speed of sounds, don’t kick me when I’m…”
Capshun‘s vision for the remix offers a unique, invigorating, yet grounded rendition of the track. His work effortlessly blends trap, future bass, and experimental bass elements together, creating something that furthers the song’s dark ambiance and deep-seated storytelling.
It is no surprise that the original song has already amassed 80,000 plays online and garnered industry recognition by the likes of EDM.com, RiverBeats, Electric Hawk, and more.
The music video, an artful portrait of abusive behaviors and Aurelia’s own struggles with PTSD, was an official selection of the Indie Shorts Fest (part of the Lost Angeles International Film Festival). It was then nominated for Best Music Video, Best Director (Aurelia), and Best Original Composition in January of 2021.
Speaking on the collaboration, Aurelia says, “Cap’s work is amazing, I can explicitly remember the first time I ever listened to his work, his OKAMI EP. It was just so memorable I had to sit down. I definitely wanted to see what he could do with my own work and was so amazed at the result.”
capshun had similar praise for Aurelia in the process and said, “When I first heard the song Aurelia wanted me to remix I pretty much instantly had ideas for it. The dark tones of the production perfectly matched up with the energy I usually go with on my own music. So once I got the stems it was short work for me. Getting to work with Aurelia has been so fun. She has a dope confident voice and awesome writing, and I feel like this remix turned out awesome!!!”
Aurelia has also enlisted several other remixes, to be released in a remix EP next month. The EP will unveil three more revisions from the likes of Icarus Moth, BLZBO, and RadioRadio, in addition to Capshun’s alternative take. We cannot wait to hear it and have added the remix of Wax to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
