We recently featured Bones in Butter for their single, Another Cloud, so we were thrilled to hear that they just released the brand new opus, A Dystopian Love Song.
Setting the tone with an immersive vocal texture and enigmatic bells, Bones in Butter open A Dystopian Love Song with the conceptual lyrics, “You don’t know when, don’t know where, the darkness will swallow this city again, so take a deep breath…”
A luscious guitar soundscape builds and takes us on a transcendental new wave journey reminiscent of The Cure. Speaking on their influences, Bones in Butter say, “There are lots of influential bands and artists, mostly from the 80s and 70s, such as Lou Reed, the Stranglers, Wire, Magazine, the Electric Light Orchestra, Wall of Voodoo, Tuxedomoon, Joy Division, Howe Gelb. However, we do not consider ourselves retro or a revival band but try to create a unique and contemporary sound.” It is clear that Bones in Butter are creating a universe of their own!
Elaborating on the inspiration for the song, the band recounts, “We always deal with serious issues and often in an ironic fashion. For this song I remember the night in a Belgrade club many years ago when I met my current wife. There was this crazy and eerie atmosphere I clearly recall. This event I tried to embed in a story of two lovers spending the night before an impending catastrophic incident.”
A Dystopian Love Song also presents the band in their final lineup, featuring Milutin Krasevic on vocals, synths, samples, music and lyrics, Luna Skopelja on vocals and synths, Todor Zivkovic performing guitars and FX, Deja Skopelja from the band U škripcu on bass, and Tom Fedja Franklin from the band Fish in Oil on drums!
We love Bones in Butter‘s vision and dimensionality, along with their unique and poetic brand of songwriting. A Dystopian Love Song has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the band’s wider discography!
