We recently featured Shawn Chasten as he channelled the universe on his emotive single, When You’re Gone, so we were thrilled to hear that the rising artist had just released a brand new song, Too Much Time.
Immersing us with textured percussion and distant vocal details, Shawn Chasten opens Too Much Time with the vulnerable, introspective and emotive hook, “Blessed by the thing that haunts me, cos I gave you too much time…”
The song expands to deliver a relatable message on boundaries, the human condition and self awareness. The overall energy of Too Much Time is a chilled and classic, but there is lyrical depth and a lot of emotion that has gone into the delivery from Shawn, not to mention the intricacies of the production.
Speaking on the creative process, Shawn says, “I wrote this song after I learned Dunno by Mac Miller, on piano. This one is heavily influenced by Mac as well as my time living in Big Sur.”
The rising artist from San Luis Obispo continues, “The piano riff that remains was the first thing I played when I turned on my keyboard, and shortly after the main hook came out of me with no thought or effort as I was searching for a melody.”
“It relates to the stresses in life, and how if they are unavoidable (in my head) and are going to exist, hopefully they are there for a reason and treat me well in the end. Amazing when songs write themselves like this”, concludes Shawn.
Once again, Shawn has demonstrated his intuitive and connected writing connection with source energy, and we love the result. Too Much Time has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist as we continue to stream the wider discography of Shawn Chasten.
