Setting the tone with an immersive synthscape, Holly Wild opens her latest single, Thrill of It with the vulnerable lyrics, “I, I’m just addicted to punishment, I must be chasing the thrill of it…”
The song expands with padded drums and enigmatic textures, along with percussive and melodic details as Holly Wild delivers a story of “the chemistry that you feel with someone that you shouldn’t, but you can’t stay away.”
The rising artist from Sydney, Australia elaborates on the meaning of her song by saying, “It’s a type of torture, a self punishment that you put yourself through when you are with them because you know you can’t be with them, but the pain feels so good that you don’t turn away.”
She continues, “Like a moth drawn to the flame, its human nature to be attracted to the excitement when there’s an element of danger. It awakens something that’s been dormant inside of you, and makes you feel alive.”
We love the conscious freedom and authenticity that Holly writes with, and her acknowledgement of hedonism and the human condition. Her flow is intricate and atmospheric, with intelligently constructed lyrics and themes that not many artists write about so openly. We have the hook on loop in our heads and are in awe of the anthemic build of the song. The overall sentiment that we are left with is cathartic.
Holly Wild‘s drive is to inspire and uplift people, she is building a community of deep connection, using her music as the glue. Her lyrics talk about “letting go, they tell you not to listen to the voices in your head that hold you back… dream big. Be wild and free.”
Holly has an upcoming EP due to be released in the second half of 2022, which we cannot wait to hear! In the meantime, we have added Thrill of It to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
