Opening with President Lyndon B. Johnson’s iconic quote, “I speak tonight for the dignity of man and the destiny of democracy…”, fused with intricate electric guitar detailing, we are already hypnotized by Great Value Jesus‘s latest single, Gen Z the Great Society.
Creating a much needed commentary on the state of our times, Gen Z the Great Society is aimed to be a generational anthem for those who are starting to come to age.
Speaking on their intention and message, the band says, “We are handed a world in severe disrepair, and this song describes what this great society is all about. Starting with a sample of President LBJ’s Great Society initiative that would end poverty; ultimately this great society never came to fruition.”
The song expands with classic rolling drums to create a luscious, psychedelic, alternative rock meets garage rock hybrid soundscape, whilst the band discusses the state of our planet, the human condition, fame and solutions with atmospheric vocals.
Great Value Jesus is composed of singer-songwriter Noah Renken- Kapatos, bassist Doug Cook, and drummer Nick Saathoff. GVJ originated as a solo project by bandleader Renken-Kapatos as an outlet to create and release every type of music he so chooses. Now as a trio, Great Value Jesu performs as the hot new college band in the central Illinois area.
The band draw inspiration from a wide variety of artists such as Modest Mouse, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Blur, Queens of the Stone Age, Peach Pit, Alt-J, Radiohead, Tame Impala, Cage the Elephant, Mac Demaco, R.E.M. and more, but it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own.
We have added Gen Z the Great Society to our New Music Spotlight playlist and cannot wait to hear GVJ’s upcoming full length philosophical LP, Is Propaganda Art?
