We recently featured Wotts for their cerebral commentary on self-destruction, Domino, so we were thrilled to hear that they had just released the brand new single, LEMONADE.
Immersing us with rippling and textured synths, we are already hypnotized by the soundscape of LEMONADE, which explodes with percussion, guitar and atmospheric vocals.
LEMONADE unveils itself as an indie-pop gem about breaking through the tough times. Although sonically, the track is vivid and full of Summer, the lyrics are emotive and deep, inspiring us to move forward and trust the universe.
Speaking on the intention of the song, the Canadian duo says, “There will be moments when you’re not able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but hopefully there’s something or someone there to remind you about the good.”
The instrumental segments of the song are luxurious, and feature a female vocal singing the word “yeah”, we are immersed and inspired. Wotts cite M83 and Empire of the Sun as their influences, although it is clear that the duo is creating a soundscape of their own.
The band’s producer and vocalist Jayem comments with reference to designing the song, “I really liked the experience of using film as a guide and I decided to keep that going here. I had this old school romcom on in the background and it has one of those cliché scenes where someone bolts through an airport to try and catch the love of their life before they fly off.”
He continues, “So that sense of desperation and faith you get from moments like that is what we tried to capture here”.
It is not surprise that the pair have hit the stages of RBC Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week and Junofest, and have received shoutouts for their work from several outlets including CBC Radio (Canada), Metro News (Canada) and PopMatters (U.S.).
We have added LEMONADE to our New Music Spotlight playlist and continue streaming Wotts‘ wider discography!
