Setting the tone with luxurious panning synths fused with acoustic guitar, we are already mesmerized by Lupe Dragon‘s latest single, I Know What You Did.
Expanding with rippling drums, the single opens with the narrative-driven lyrics, “You said I’m going on vacation…” as Lupe Dragon recounts the story of a nasty breakup.
Speaking on the release of the song, Lupe asks, “Have you ever heard someone so mad that they just had to talk about it, or should I say rap about it?”
I Know What You Did is exactly that… “a song about a tumultous breakup where lies become deceiving memories of what real was in a relationship, and anger rears its ugly head to the surface.”
We love the intricate and intelligent lyricism, Lupe’s flow is incredible and we are obsessed as she sets her boundaries with a luxurious and immersive alternative pop soundscape.
I Know What You Did was recorded and produced by Matthew Filipek of Sterling Sound in Edgewater NJ, and Lupe Dragon’s creative influences for the song include emo rock, punk, hip-hop and rap, although it is clear that she is creating a sound of her own!
We particularly love the rap verse on the track, and speaking in more depth, Lupe says, “I really think this is the first song that shows me as an angry person. I don’t like the person I become when I get angry but as humans, we all experience anger in a different way. The best way for me to express my anger towards this person was to put it in this song”.
We have added I Know What You Did to our New Music Spotlight playlist and continue to stream Lupe Dragon’s wider discography including Distance and Happiness.
