Setting the tone with wild and high octane electric guitar, which evolves with additional guitar riffs and a rising vocal singing the title of the song, we are already mesmerized by Robbie Rapids‘ debut release, Who Shot Them Down.
The song expands into a classic rock energy, whilst Robbie Rapids tells us the story of a murder mystery that happened in 1964 in Gwinnett County Georgia.
The story is based off Tony Tiffin’s “Arc Road”, and is written and performed by Robbie Rapids and David Levene with emotive lyrics including the visceral context of the situation, “Three cops on the ground, old dirt road, can you tell me what went down…”
Who Shot Them Down delivers quite an upbeat energy considering the gravitas of the lyrical content.
Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Robbie Rapids started playing music at the early age of 16, over the years Robbie has mastered his craft by playing in several music projects, now after all this time, he is finally going solo and ready to make some waves with his art.
He cites The Beatles, David Bowie, Stone Temple Pilots and Tom Petty as some of his main influences, but it is clear that Robbie Rapids is also developing his own sound and lyrical universe.
Who Shot Them Down is both a respectful tribute and a solid piece of classic rock that will appeal to nostalgic and newer fans alike. It is rare to hear an artist sing about the welfare of the police in America at an all time high where the majority use terms like ACAB. This in itself make the song and message highly unique, and a call for peace from all sides. The case would be remembered forever as “The Dark Days of April 1964”.
We have added Who Shot Them Down to our New Music Spotlight playlist and are excited to hear more from Robbie Rapids as he embarks on his solo adventure!
