Setting the tone with intricate plucked guitar and glistening bells, whilst atmospheric vocals surround us, we are already hypnotized by Henry Aberson‘s latest release, Hang It Up, which features Nariah Taylor.
With R&B vocal detailing leading us into a rolling drum riff, Nariah sings smoothly, “Can we talk about it at least? Cos not talking ain’t gonna help me…”
Nariah continues to ask for clarity on a break up situation, where she wants to communicate, whilst her ex partner seems to be unable to reciprocate. She asks gently the hook, “Can we hang it up? Cos frankly baby I have had enough…” whilst we are immersed in a highly detailed composition fusing neo-soul and contemporary R&B from producer and artist Henry Aberson.
We are in awe of the piano performance by Korey Keys and the elegant guitar work from Chris Campbell. When Henry was asked to describe the meaning of the track, he simply says, “[The] story of Hang It Up is about an impossible relationship. It’s about the groove, heart and soul.”
Henry cites D’Angelo and Eryka Badu as influences for the song, although it is clear that Henry and Nariah are creating a unique frequency of their own. Hang It Up was recorded in individual home studio’s of the artists and mixed by Derek Garten at Prime studio Nashville .
Henry leaves us with a final philosophical comment saying, “This is real heart and soul, performed by real musicians, all for real. The world needs authenticity, in the arts. We are deep into it.”
We have added Hang It Up to our New Music Spotlight playlist and continue exploring the wider catalogues of the artists!
