Cities in Dust deliver psychedelic and immersive new single, The Other Son

Setting the tone with a cymbal count in, expanding into drums and percussive detailing before we experience a psychedelic guitar, Cities in Dust open their latest single, The Other Son with the lyrics, “take time, you make time…”

We love the intricacy in the production and how it transcends into a cleaner pop sound once Cities in Dust deliver the first verse and evolving into their unique groove-rock soundscape.

The Other Son comments on the human condition, fake news and a changing reality, whilst our protagonists insist that they are not the one that got away, they are indeed “The Other Son”.

Instrumental solos in the composition are out of this world, with textured vocals helping to dimensionalize the piece. The song was was recorded, mixed and mastered at Whitehouse Studios in Reading.

You can understand why their sound has been likened to “a Blade Runner film score if it was made by New Order” and other comparisons have included Gorillaz, Kasabian, Beck and The Charlatans, but it is clear that Cities in Dust are creating their own genre expansive universe.

“Someone at a gig once told us it sounded like baking a cake in your ear holes”, says Ady Baker, the band’s frontman, “with different musical ingredients blending together in a unique way”.

The line up of the group features Ady Baker on vocals, Jim Dorney on bass, Billy ‘Smile’ Imrie on guitar and Leo Brown on drums. It is no surprise that Cities in Dust have also been supported by BBC Introducing.

We have added The Other Son to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been streaming the band’s wider discography including This Chaotic Shop and Vanishing Anarchist.
