Setting the tone with a textured rising synth, building into an iconic and luxurious guitar hook, gloomy june open their latest single with a subversive picture as they sing, “woke up on the living room floor, clothes smelling like smoke from the night before…“
The song is called This Party Is A Warzone, and it was written in mid-2021 as music venues were beginning to open up and concerts and shows were coming back.
The song expands with a refined alternative pop-rock frequency, and we are mesmerized by gloomy june‘s vocal prowess, as they sing with rich context and charismatic passion.
Elaborating on the depth and inspiration of the song, gloomy june confess, “At the shows, there was an air of desperation to “go back to normal” that felt both celebratory and chaotic, almost dangerous.”
They continue, “The song was inspired by that energy to party like your life depends on it, mixed in with a self-awareness that the party can’t last forever.”
We appreciate the quantum lyrics, “I feel your frequency, your energy, and feel alright”, and the romantic “take a snapshot of this love before we fade away”.
The middle eight of there song is emotive and stripped back, and really allows the more intimate sound of the vocals to shine though, not to mention a sickening guitar solo!
We have added This Party Is A Warzone to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been streaming gloomy june’s wider discography! You can catch gloomy june on tour this Spring and Summer, with their next date in Montreal Canada for Pouzza Fest 10 on May 20.
