Setting the tone with an immersive and meditative frequency, expanding into crackles of thunder, we are already hypnotized by Dime Nineteen‘s latest single, Valhalla.
Drums, intricate guitars and hybrid soundscape of 80s rock meets psychedelia take us deeper as Dime Nineteen open with the poetic and narrative-driven lyrics:
“A mighty warrior is driven by desire
To walk throughout his country namelessly
The people bow and go before him casting flowers
Make sacrifices in his name to victory.”
Valhalla delivers the story arc of a protagonist warrior, whilst angry warlords demand that he wield his power. It marks the debut studio release from the Seattle-based rock band.
Speaking on the meaning of the composition, Dime Nineteen say, “The song is about a classic mythological warrior character and what the consequences are when they receive a certain set of powers from the Gods.”
Dime Nineteen is made up of brothers Jeff Thomas on guitar and vocals, and Dan Thomas on keyboards and vocals. Valhalla also features superstar drummer Kenny Aronoff and Seattle bass legend Keith Lowe, and was mixed by the legendary Grammy winner Bill Schnee (Steely Dan, Dire Straits), who has over 125 Gold and Platinum records and 50 top twenty singles.
Elaborating on their influences, the duo says, “We caught the bug when the Beatles appeared for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show. In addition to the Beatles, our influences include Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, the Grateful Dead, as well as many others”, although it is clear that they are carving their own path.
Valhalla is an iconic debut with a gripping narrative, epic guitar solos, intricate synth work, and an immersive and bold sonic experience that has us mesmerized and transported. We have also added Valhalla by Dime Nineteen to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
