Setting the tone with enigmatic, layered guitar riffs and light percussion, Kid Koi‘s opens his latest release Those Kinda Days with a relatable concept and the lyrics, “It’s one of those kinda days, getting well down kinds of days…”
The song expands with a textured beat and a narrative based journey where Kid Koi takes us through losing his girl, getting fired from his job, with introspective and existential lyrics.
The hook is infectious and we love the atmospheric part of the composition that comes into play half way though the song, as Kid Koi sings in cohesive fusion about his nightmares and crises, with some bass and an immersive soundscape before building back into the chorus of the song.
Speaking on his artistry, Kid Koi says, “I am an electric guitar player, mostly blues, turned into a singer/songwriter. I think my upbringing, musical taste, and approach to songwriting make for a fresh sound that’s relatable yet not cliche.”
Kid Koi, aka Sota Koike hails from the lower east side of Manhattan. He is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The rising artist cites Blues, Classic Rock, and Hip-Hop as some of his genre inspirations, but it is clear that he is also developing a sound of his own.
His philosophy as a musician is to embrace difficulty to improve continuously and bring order to chaos with his music. We love Kid Koi‘s message and self-realized artistry, and have added Those Kinda Days to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
