Setting the tone with an enigmatic panning frequency and vinyl textures, we are already hypnotized by Sonic Winter‘s latest single, Take My Hand. The song expands with whirring riser, a vocal detail, along with percussion, strings and keys into a trip-hop hybrid soundscape.
We experience an emotive rap performance from MC Elijah Black as he tells the story of an unknown artist who uses music as a way of escaping the harshness of his urban life.
MC Elijah Black delivers the line “Me and my conscious had a talk today, told me when I see trouble better walk away…” as his lyricism feels like a stream of consciousness which convey a myriad of images, thoughts and emotions.
We love the cosmic build of the chorus, with cymbal textures that send us astral and the spiritual references of the chorus, cohesively fused with the uplifting chants of the gospel choir.
“Maybe we can go up to the moon and hold hands”, is a beautifully poetic lyric and we feel a sense of optimism as MC Elijah Black helps us reach a higher plane of existence through his delivery and the sonic landscape.
The entire composition is an iconic piece of artistry and also comes with a cinematic film-noir music video which further amplifies the experience of Take My Hand.
We also love the cover art (pictured above), which was illustrated by Charlie Padgett and have added Take My Hand to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as we continue streaming Sonic Winter’s wider discography.
