Setting the tone with immersive acoustic guitar, My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House open their latest single, Wasting Away with the introspective lyrics, “My neighbours hate me, my girlfriend hates me, my dog hates me, but I love myself….”
The song expands to deliver a narrative-driven pop punk vibe, where the band touches upon the monotony of a desk job, and the roadblocks of taking a non-traditional path in a corporation-dominated America.
My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House deliver passion and thought-provoking lyricism as they take us on a cerebral, relatable and intelligent journey with Wasting Away.
The Philadelphia-based alternative-indie rock trio are releasing Wasting Away as a follow up to their previous single, Therapeutic Hypocrite, and as the second track to highlight a refined sound the band worked on throughout the lockdowns of the pandemic to find their place.
With self love as the central theme of the song, it is clear that the band has a deep understanding of themselves as they deliver comedic nuance and wisdom with their verbiage.
Formed in 2020, My Cousin’s Girlfriend’s House consists of musicians with deep roots in the Philly and surrounding DIY scenes including Brian Quirk (Kissing the Klepto, Brian Quirk), Andrew Hight (The Jumping Juvies) and Pete Long (Above the Mendoza). Wasting Away is produced and mixed by Pete Zen (Jet Jag, Hang Tight) at Landmine Studios in Ewing, NJ.
MCGH cite a range of influences, from pop-punk/indie groups like The Wonder Years, Modern Baseball, and The Front Bottoms, to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Revivalists, and more, but it is clear that they are creating a lane of their own.
We have added Wasting Away to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been streaming the band’s wider discography including Therapeutic Hypocrite!
