Setting the tone with textured percussion and immersive bass notes, we are already hypnotized by 1st Base Runner‘s Near Me, taken from their sophomore EP, Ellis!
The song expands with electric guitar, creating a dream pop meets alternative rock fusion soundscape whilst 1st Base Runner opens with the curious lyrics, “Would you come for me, would you come? Will you go near me? Would you come?”
Near Me also comes with a music video directed by Ellis Chai Bahl and Johnny Chew, which captures 1st Base Runner‘s inner world at it’s most surreal, psychedelic, dream-like and dangerous.
The music video is psychedelic and cinematic, with an intimate performance from 1st Base Runner featuring elements of science fiction and cerebral visuals. It merges the aesthetics of Bates Motel and Alice in Wonderland in a subversive way, and we are obsessed.
In an iconic move, the visual was created under the guidance of longtime Radiohead creative director Dilly Gent. The CGI and editing by Vern Moen is exquisite, and the video has us completely mesmerized.
We have added Near Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in 1st Base Runner‘s wider discography including the entire Ellis EP!
