Setting the tone with intricate piano work, Jōviky opens his latest single, Proud of Me with the introspective and emotive lyrics, “We was only just kids, how it’s supposed to me, young men growing honestly…”
The song expands with a glistening pop-trap meets indie vibe where we learn that Jōviky lost two fathers by the age of three, as delivers a vulnerable story of self love, understanding, realizations and wonders if his fathers are proud of him.
Speaking on the meaning of the song, which is produced in collaboration with MaxxWell Q, Jōviky explains, “Proud of Me is an awakening, a moment of clarity inspired by time spent lamenting the loss of childhood. Sharing these thoughts and feelings brought me peace.”
The rising artist from Los Angeles expands, “I hope it can help others dealing with the arduous process of overcoming childhood trauma.”
Proud of Me comes with a cinematic video featuring a passionate and profound performance from Jōviky, as he walks through a symbolic stoney landscape, throwing stones as he goes and really bringing to life his raw emotion.
Jōviky is a storyteller who is known by friends to be soft-spoken, but his music reveals not-so-quiet truths and speaks volumes. With his unique sonic intersection fusing pop, folk and alternative hip hop, we are obsessed.
