Setting the tone with intricate and skilful acoustic guitar detailing, Brendan Lane opens his latest single, Oh Child, with charming and narrative-driven lyrics, “There a house on River Street, where the sun shines through the trees, warms the face that I can’t wait to see…”
Oh Child expands to tell the story of two lovers who are tired of dreaming of life beyond the county lines, and decide to manifest their destiny.
Created as an outcome of being limited to the constraints of a small town, Oh Child is inspired by Brendan’s reality, growing up living on the outskirts of two major U.S. cities, where he often found himself sitting on the sides of roadways watching cars pass by and wondering when it would be his turn to explore the world.
When discussing Oh Child, the rising artist says, “The song is very much about leaving a place and how two souls grew tired of dreaming about change, so they choose to take matters into their own hands and lean into their wanderlust”.
Lyrical highlights include the romantic “and when she dreams, she dreams of me”, and the expansive “she’s got her wings, she’s ready to fly”, which leads into the hook where Brendan sings emotively, “oh child! we’re gonna fly away”.
Oh Child was produced with John Rupp, and recorded at Baby Barn Studios in Halifax, PA. Brendan grew up with a jazz musician father and discovered rock and roll at the age of eight, and made it his life’s purpose ever since.
It is no surprise that this purpose has led Brendan around the world, performing on three different continents, which deepened his understanding of what it means to be a performer.
