Setting the mood with guitars and drums, delivering a power pop meets soul rock energy, Samuel Joson opens his latest single, What Can We Do? with the conceptual and deterministic lyrics, “What would you say, if I told you the fire’s gone?”
The song expands to tell the story of toxic relationships, and how we must assess our boundaries and truly ask, “What Can We Do?“. Speaking on the the meaning of the song, the rising artist from Minneapolis wisely says, “without change, then you’re destined to keep repeating the same thing.”
The song expands with intricate production and meaningful, emotive lyricism, along with epic vocal runs from Samuel Joson! The feel good and groovy song essentially hold the message that one can’t force love.
When elaborating on his artistry, Samuel says, “I have been writing music and playing instruments since I was young growing up in the church. I have turned that beginning into a career of making catchy melodies and feel good music that gets stuck in your head.”
He cites his main influences as icons such as Queen, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, but it is clear that Samuel is creating a dimension of his own.
What Can We Do? was recorded at Deep River Audio in Prescott, Minnesota and is produced by Taylor Heinzen. Studio musicians include Aaron Johnson on drums, Matthew Terrado on guitar and Joe Harrier on bass guitar.
Leaving us with his final thoughts on the track, Samuel simply states, “I wanted this song to have a groovy and nostalgic feel to it, to make it catchy and force you to keep playing it on repeat.”
