Setting the tone with a riser, enigmatic melodies with synth and guitar detailing, we are already hypnotized by Julian Petrin‘s latest opus, Moonrays.
As the song expands, we experience celestial and bright notes, as an emerging electric piano becomes the main protagonist of the song. The intention of Moonrays is to “open a door to the listener’s inner landscapes with its multi-faceted dimensions: longing, being lost, confidence.”
We love the dramatic and cinematic energy of the song, with electronic and organic instrumentation that is complexed, immersive and textured, adding a sense of epic dimensionality to the piece.
Speaking on the release, composer Julian Petrin says, “The composition is part of a series of very personal instrumental songs I’ve been releasing since 2021 – perhaps my most personal song yet. Like other songs in the series, it combines strong compositional elements and classical instrumentation with careful electronic elements and a memorable melodic line.”
Moonrays reminds us of Robert Miles’ Children, but with a more serene frequency and luxurious sonic landscape. Anticipation builds with elegance throughout the composition and we are mesmerized.
Julian Petrin‘s music builds bridges between neo-classical music, compositional ambient and downtempo electronica. Raised on Jazz, fallen to the impressionists as a piano student, he got his first inspirations from artists like Jean-Michel Jarre, Ryuichi Sakamoto or David Sylvian. His music today can be located between the works of film music composers like Vladimir Cosma or Francis Lai and artists like Niklas Paschburg, Grandbrothers, Rone ore Bayonne, but it is clear that Julian is creating a universe of his own.
We have added Moonrays to our New Music Spotlight playlist and are streaming Julian Petrin‘s wider discography including Les folies and Embrace.
