Setting the tone with cerebral frequencies expanding into percussion details, a pulsing bass, risers and vocal samples, Doug Beverly opens his latest release Contemplating with narrative driven lyrics “Get in my zone, and I’m back out my way, bottle of patron, she askin’ to stay…”
With an eloquent flow fused cohesively into the alternative meets trap hybrid soundscape, we are already hypnotized by Doug Beverly‘s energy. Contemplating depicts the story of temptation, nightlife, scandal and love triangles. The protagonist takes us on a subversive, yet vulnerable journey through his emotions and the human experience.
Doug Beverly is a multifaceted talent with immense songwriting ability. Doug Beverly‘s tools of choice for producing are his Ol’ Reliable Keyboard and FL Studio DAW. The rising artist from Toronto cites Nirvana, Kanye West and Miguel as his top influences, but it is clear that Doug is creating a vibe of his own.
In an iconic move, Doug just made his fashion runway debut for Designer Adrian Ally at Fashion Art Toronto’s Fashion Week, and it is no surprise that his songs are already getting play on radio stations including 97.7 Ejazz Radio.
Speaking on the creative process behind Contemplating, Doug says introspectively, “The thought process for this song was essentially to build this dark atmosphere, where reality and fantasy meet in the mind. Contemplating revolves around the notion of temptation and curiosity amongst a love triangle. Love triangles can make you do that.”
We love the intricacy that has gone into the narrative, and have added Contemplating to our New Music Spotlight playlist. We have also been streaming Doug Beverly‘s wider discography including Subliminal and Mania.
