Setting the tone with an atmospheric and meditative soundscape, ROJAZ opens her new single, Unwind with the lyrics, “Sunlight streaming in, body and mind unwind, stress in decline…”, as the camera shows our protagonist vibing with her friends, dressed in pastels in the music video.
The song is a peaceful ode to being at one with your lover. Speaking on the track, ROJAZ says, “Unwind depicts that almost deliriously ecstatic stage of first falling in love. When all the colours seem brighter and you feel like everything is full of possibilities. Due to the instrumentation and ‘ecstatic’ feel I knew I wanted the video to have a dance scene, mix in visual elements associated with club scenes, and have some darker undertones. I asked myself; if love was a drug what would it look and feel like.”
The rising artist from London continues, “The concept I developed was: The world is paused except for the people who have taken the drug of ‘love’ – that’s why I picked to start with extras frozen around a restaurant, dressed in black to contrast with the purposefully chosen pastel coloured outfits for those ‘on the drug of love’. I felt the colours in the outfit and modern design of the venue contrasted well with the darker clubbier choruses and the later darker thematics of the EP.”
Lyrical highlights of Unwind include the cosmic “got me hooked on your energy…”, the passionate “love and desire you set me on fire so easily…” and the sensual “talking for hours can’t wait to devour…”
ROJAZ cites Chandelier by Sia and Rosalia’s malamente/pienso en tu mirá along with Like Sugar by Chaka Khan as video references, which we can see come to life in the piece, but it is clear that ROJAZ is creating a vibe of her own.
We have added Unwind to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been streaming ROJAZ’s wider discography including como quieres que me enfade, Her and Stuck on My Mind.
