Setting the vibe with a cosmic and astral riser fused with the sound of rippling water, we are already fully transfixed by Graffiti Welfare‘s new single Just Follow. The opus expands with a meditative synth and soaring textures, whilst an enigmatic guitar emerges and the synthcape immerses us further.
Atmospheric vocals envelope us mid-way though the track inviting us to Just Follow the stream and float away. Speaking on the meaning of the track, the rising artist from Denver says, “The message is simple, just follow the stream, and trust in nature.”
When asked to describe the soundscape of the track, Graffitti Welfare poetically expresses, “pop vapor-wave, time-warp unraveling along a red-carpet of psych rock stretch time while angular lead guitar & deep vocal hooks punctuate the modern vibe with 60s sensibility”. We love that description, and fully endorse.
The song comes with an artistic music video, which fits cohesively and energetically with the sonic landscape of the song, amplifying it and allowing us to connect with nature.
Graffiti Welfare cites Animal Collective, Tame Impala, Radiohead, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, MGMT, Beach House, Helado Negro, Tycho, Beach Boys, Grateful Dead, Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and Weatherbox as sonic influences, although it is clear that the artist is creating a universe of his own.
Just Follow has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist and we have been exploring the band’s wider discography including Volume and Charlie Brown.
