Setting the tone with intricate, atmospheric and textured vocal layers, Eleri Ward opens her new single Perfect with the introspective lyrics, “Perfect is boring so why do I want it so bad? So in my head that I’ve robbed me from all that I have…” fused with immersive drums and key.
The song expands with guitar and synth details, and goes on to explore the frustration of self-limitations deriving from the uncontrollable urge to strive for perfection with luxurious vocals, exquisite harmonies and thought-provoking lyricism from the rising New York artist.
Speaking on the opening question of the song, Eleri confesses, “[It] is an ever present question as a perfectionist trying to break out of self-judgement so as to freely express oneself.”
She continues, “As a human being, perfection is unattainable, so why not just let it go? Easier said than done…so I’ll sing about it in the meantime by way of ever-flowing melodies, acoustic guitar, keyboard, synth, and many other vibrant sounds.’
We are hypnotized by the track which is dimensional and intelligently constructed, with lyricism designed to help us choose self love. To help us liberate ourselves from self-judgement, the hook of Perfect is infectious and has us repeating it all day like a mantra.
Eleri Ward is a New York City-based singer, actor, and musician opening Josh Groban’s Harmony Tour, summer 2022. In 2021, she recorded and produced her full-length indie-folk Sondheim album, A Perfect Little Death, in her closet.

We have added Perfect to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been exploring Eleri Ward‘s wider discography including Johanna and Children Will Listen.
