Immersing us with a cosmic frequency, a glistening bright detail and textured and layered strings, we are already hypnotized by Lisa Curran‘s debut single, milkshake sky.
Fused with doubled drums, Lisa opens milkshake sky with the introspective lyrics, “Save my from the screams tormenting me, you’ve become my dream, you release me, you soothe reality, I am your prisoner but yet I hold the key, I’ve got no authority…”
Conceptually there are elements of David Bowie and Elton John in Lisa Curran’s lyricism, and a soundscape that Lana Del Rey fans will appreciate.
The song is inspired by the work of poet, Farida Momtaz. Lisa says, “It is a representation of an up and down relationship whether that be a love interest, a friend or a family member!”
Recorded in London, the producers the song deemed Lisa “too fat” and stated that “no-one will support a mom”, so Lisa decided to release milkshake sky independently and is “hoping to show that the music scene is more accepting these days and it’s not all image”!
We love the sonic landscape that Lisa Curran has chosen to works with, and the visual universe that she creates with her lyricism.
Lisa Curran is from Kerry in Ireland, her work is genre expansive and she has a wealth of vocal experience, as well as a BMus from the Cork School of Music. She is also a vocal coach, music journalist and mother to her autistic son, Christopher.
It is inspiring to see Lisa pursue her passion despite the nay sayers in the industry that often seek to limit women and gender minorities.
We have added milkshake sky to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been streaming a song that we wrote about recently, called Embrace The World by Kevin Walsh, which Lisa features on!
