Setting the tone with a high octane and enigmatic post punk energy with enigmatic guitar notes, Ruebi opens his song Lovetrain with the charming lyrics, “I walked down to the train, driving through the night, walk alone through the streets, with the bright city lights, and I miss you and the time, we were on fire…”
The song expands to tell a playful and sometimes sad story of still being in love with someone. Speaking on the meaning of the track, Ruebi says, “I always like interesting weird Stuff. This song is about [the] weird stalking of an ex-girlfriend, funny like a caricature…”
Some lyrical highlights are the emotive “I was in love too blind to see
you really cried…”, the melancholic “all alone stumbling through the night…” and the forlorn “I’m a broke boy waiting dull for the Lovetrain fate…”
Inspired by 80s Post Punk, New Wave, Dark Wave and Indie Electro, Ruebi used to play in a well known punk band but he prefers to keep that side of things mysterious and be judged on his music as a solo artist. We particularity love how Ruebi has made the song sound like a literal Lovetrain, it is clear from his artistry that Ruebi is an authentic and high concept creator.
We have added Lovetrain to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been streaming Ruebi’s wider discography from this series including STRANGE and Clown.
