Setting the frequency with a vinyl texture and enigmatic, atmospheric keys, we are already hypnotized by Al Mur‘s latest release, Duende, which in the folklore of Spain means “a supernatural being or spirit”.
Duende expands with an immersive riser to deliver transcendental bells with saxophone, synths and a more robust percussive soundscape, with rippling snares and a pulsing beat.
Speaking on his inspirations, Al Mur says, “I have always been fascinated by the music of all genres, from pop to classical. In high school, I learned to play the guitar but never mastered it.”
“Fortunately, years later, I found GarageBand on iPad and other music production apps, which allowed me to experiment with other instruments. I then adopted GarageBand for Mac and Logic Pro X, my DAW now”, continues the rising artist from Greenville.
Duende expands and contracts cohesively, with a tapestry of sounds and evoking a sensual and refined energy. Al Mur says, “I have been influenced by many musicians, including classical composers. My favourite composers are List and Mussorgsky. I like classic rock, disco and instrumental hip hop. My recent tracks are influenced by Deadmau5, Brian Culbertson and Misc. Inc.”
Although Al Mur cites a range of inspirations, which we can understand, it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own with his artistry.
“The music was inspired by my wife’s oil on canvas painting”, elaborates Al Mur, as he references the stunning artwork of a flamenco dancer, created by his spouse. He concludes, “The song is about love and passion for flamenco.”
We love Al Mur‘s sonic landscape and have added Duende to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in the artist’s wider discography including Capturing The Mood and Morning Kiss.
