Setting the tone with a glitch detail and the words “In a street fight, anything is legal…”, RedrumSociety deliver a subversive and cerebral message with T Money Green Strikes Again – the introduction track of their EP, Street Fights.
Moving onto the title track of the record, we experience elegant alt rock guitar chords and introspective and vulnerable lyricism as the song expands to help “voice the frustration and insecurities we are facing in these difficult times”.
We love the harmonies, and emotive nature of the song which reminds us a bit of 90s bands like Bush. RedrumSociety was founded in 2008 by four friends in South Florida and continues to be helmed by Zach Cohen who creates today with the intention of embodying the spirit of the original lineup, once featuring Esperanzo Wilcox, Esdras Reymond and Dylan Lerner.
Next up on the EP is Look Out, which lends itself to a more narrative driven style song which echoes the energy of Bob Dylan. Love You No More retains the same sonic tendencies as its predecessor tracks, but with super emotive vocal delivery as Zach sings “for too long you had me hypnotized” as he urges his muse to cry no more. There are elements of RedrumSociety that have a sense of nostalgia for The Beatles with the layered harmonies and they truly have the potential to evoke great passion with their delivery.
Next up is With My One and Only which recounts the story of feeling lonely even when you are in a relationship, giving us a more quirky frequency. The record concludes with a 22-second outro with more advice from T Money Green.
The EP as a whole was conceived by Cohen to illuminate his different feelings and experiences during the quarantine after the start of the pandemic, the political climate and his relationship at the time, and we are obsessed.
We have added Street Fights and Look Out to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in the band’s more recent work including Stormy Weather.
