Immersing us with celestial tones and intricate details layered with a synthetic fuzz bass that becomes more warped as the song expands, Joho opens their latest single with a plea, “Tell me the truth…”
Just Be Honest goes on to tell the story of a complicated relationship situation and the human condition, with lyrics such as “I don’t wanna be gone, but I don’t wanna be round…”
The relatable theme of the song is cohesively soundscaped with an outstanding vocal performance from Joho which is full of passion, vulnerability and self-awareness and a hybrid drill-pop production.
Just Be Honest is the lead single from Joho’s upcoming album Black American Scumbag and features three verses each “respectively acknowledging interpersonal relationships, peoples perception of him and his view of himself”.
As he begs for the truth on the new single, we feel a strong Kanye West influence in production and delivery, but it is also clear that Joho is carving a path for himself with his diverse and incredible vocal delivery.
Speaking on the anthemic track, Joho leaves us with the sage insight and advice, “The song is about being honest with yourself, as well as your partners, friends and the world about who you are and what you want to be.”
We have added Just Be Honest to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been exploring Joho‘s wider discography including Rules and On Top Soon.
