Earlier, we were exploring the recent work of multi-disciplinary artist Sky Canyon, particularly the release of his vibrant and transcendental single, Bluesalicious.
We were thrilled to find another recent release from the eponymous artist, called Wijic.
Opening with jazz keys that expand into percussion details with upright bass, drums and the iconic vibraphone, performed by Sky Canyon himself, we are aready immersed in the composition.
The energy of the track has high-spirited and playful energy, which is signature to Sky’s work for this project. The original piece has a swing-jazz vibe and features Justin Adams on piano, Ron Bland on upright bass and Mike Marlier on drums.
We love the groovy atmosphere that Sky creates with his universe, and the keys and vibraphone fuse so cohesively together, sometimes in synch, and sometimes juxtaposed. You can imagine this playing in a speak-easy or an episode of a hit TV show.
The keys dominate almost half way though the track, having their moment as the song continues to drive forward to assertive prowess. Sky returns with the vibraphone taking us to a more dimensional realm.
The drums have their solo moment, with syncopated flexes and high octane deliver, we are hypnotized. Playing out til the end of the track, Sky, who is based in Boulder, delivers intricacy and intimacy with his performance. The finale of the track delivers an atmospheric close, as the track culminates in a luxurious climax.
We continue to explore Sky Canyon‘s discography and have also been listening to Subtle Approach and You Know That I’ve Loved You (For a Long, Long Time).
