Braulio Cruz reminisces on immersive new single, Motel 6

We recently featured Brazilian artist Braulio Cruz, who is based in New York City, for his impactful and moving track, An Endless Love, so we were excited to learn that the rising artist was releasing a new single, Motel 6.

Immersing us with layered pulsating synths and psychedelic detailing, Motel 6 open with the lyrics, “I was so young then, at the Motel 6 vending machine, 1998, now is it too late?”

Speaking on the meaning of the track Braulio says, “Motel 6 was inspired by my family coming to California from Brazil when I was 6. This was during the Dot-Com boom. It was a real exciting time to be in California!”

He continues, “I’m so nostalgic for this time. It felt like the world was full of endless possibilities. We were drawn into this North American dream, looking for our moment in the sun. Success, fame, belonging, and happiness. Technology kept advancing and we kept staying. Looking back, waiting.”

The progressive, synth pop soundscape is luxurious and hypnotizing in cohesive fusion with Braulio’s vocal design. Elaborating on the inspiration of the soundscape, he says “It takes influence from Electric Light Orchestra’s Time” and also references Ladytron, Madonna, Bjork, Mirwais and The Flaming Lips, although it is clear that Braulio Cruz is creating a universe of his own.

Recorded at his home using Ableton and a modest collection of synths, notably a Behringer Pro-1, Motel 6 is mixed and mastered by Randy Bergida.

Braulio ends the song with the profound and self-realized lyrics, “Game was just a scheme, now I’m in a dream…”

We have added Motel 6 to our New Music Spotlight playlist and continue to stream Braulio Cruz‘s Top Tracks including An Endless Love, Outside Society and Manifestation.
