Setting the tone with cinematic drums and textured, layered and subversive synth frequencies, SINISTRA opens her debut single with the mysterious lyrics, “You were just a figure, in a fantasy yeah, til you fell into my love…“
With soaring vocals showcasing the range of the emerging artist, Figure in a Fantasy has a hybrid-80s vibe which expands with stunning strings and luxurious harmonies as SINISTRA delivers lyrics describing “the head gatekeeping the heart”.
The release marks the first for SINISTRA, and is also the title track of her upcoming, self-produced album. Speaking on the theme, SINISTRA says that Figure in a Fantasy is about “missing out on love for the expectation of fantasy. It’s a losing battle, with emotional casualties and fierce recollections. It’s a fire in the night, a trip down memory lane with a quickening heartbeat and a depth of thought that could continue on forever unchecked.”
Touching upon the human condition, identity, the complexities of love, mental health and self-realization, Figure in a Fantasy has us excited for what is to come from the profound artist based in New York City and originally from San Francisco.
Lyrical highlights include the dark, “saw you trip and all I could ever see yeah was the blood”, the vulnerable hook “over and over and over I’m thinking about it, how I couldn’t hold you, holding on too tight…”, and the philosophical “I couldn’t put you in the role I wrote to beat the lonely night…”
We have added the epic debut of Figure in a Fantasy to our New Music Spotlight playlist and anticipate more from SINISTRA!
