We were first introduced to Girl in the mirror with her conscious collaborative single, Lonely, with Emily McNally, so we were thrilled to hear that the epic producer was releasing AfterLife, a song inspired by Hindu mythology.
This time in collaboration with DJ SKAGE, AfterLife delivers a modern, drum and bass take on the well-known mythological story of Shiva and Parvati.
After the death of his first wife Sati, Shiva retreats from the world and buries himself in meditation. Sati, however, is reborn in the form of Parvati, and tries to seduce the grief-stricken god once again so that the child born of their marriage can end the rampage of a demon.
We love the immersive nature of the record, the celestial details fused with drum and bass and the conscious lyricism. The beat is out-of-this-world, which is very fitting for the theme of the track and we love the bright bells and melodic nuances.
The song has an optimistic message and lyrical highlights include the spiritual, “You chased enlightenment in a mango grove…”, the profound, “our sacred marriage can save this land…” and the iconic, “immortality lies in legends, so after death we can live again…”
The instrumental for the track was designed by DJ SKAGE with Tushar Sharma on guitar, and the vocal topline was completed with the lyrics of Fanni Sütő, and sung by Girl in the mirror. The tree on the song artwork represents the eternal bonding of Parvati and Shiva.
We have added AfterLife to our New Music Spotlight playlist and you can learn more about the artists below and listen to each of their discographies via their Top Tracks on Spotify!
