Setting the tone with an enigmatic vocal texture, we are immediately intrigued by Losun‘s new single, Crossroad. He opens the song with the lyrics, “Got to a crossroad, I don’t know where to go…” with a clean pop vocal fused with strummed guitar.
As the song expands, we experience a more robust indie-pop landscape with elements of psychedelia, that is mesmerizing as Losun sings about meeting a person at a Crossroad, but sadly having to part ways.
The instrumental section gets atmospheric and cerebral and reminds us of early Bowie with elements of The Beatles.
Losun, who is also known as Mateo Guidali started releasing under his professional name a couple of years ago. The rising artist from Madrid says, “I was going through a tough time and I threw myself into this project head first. I already had some experience with a band called Zen Parks but that came out of pleasure, and in the other hand, Losun came out of a necessity.”
Divulging further on the purpose of his artistry, Losun says, “They say music heals the soul for a reason. My first few singles mainly talk about anxiety and mental disorders. It’s a subject that I like to tackle since it’s been a taboo for so many years, and it seems people are slowly being vocal about it.”
He continues, with wisdom, “We’re all going through this human experience alone in a way, so it always helps to feel there’s a togetherness in the experience too.”
We love the conceptual, playful and cerebral visual for the song, which takes us on a digital journey and showcases the Spanish artist in his creative spaces.
Expanding further on the song, Losun adds, “With this single things shifted more towards the emotional side. Sometimes you find yourself at a crossroad, and you may find someone in the same position and share a deep connection with them, but the problem with crossroads is that they do not share the same destination.”
Losun cites Tame Impala, alt J, Portugal the Man, Milky Chance, Glass Animals and Jungle as his influences, but it is clear that he is creating his own path. Crossroads was written and co-produced by himself, Mateo Guidali, produced and mixed by Brais Ruibal, and recorded at Riverman Studios, Spain.
“The song was mainly inspired by love, but the ethos that pushed this project is to make people feel less alone. Thankfully music has that power”, concludes the conscious artist as he shares his art with the world.
We have added Crossroads to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in Losun’s wider discography including Haunted and Typo!
