Setting the tone with enigmatic frequencies before expanding into a trap-hybrid soundscape, we are already hypnotized by cmfrt. and Jaheem‘s new single, Facelift which features Jay Coast.
The luxurious production with autotuned vocal textures opens with the high concept lyrics, “I just got a Facelift from the latest gas that I’m smoking on…”
Iconically, the song is released on 4/20, co-produced by the rising producer/rap duo from St. Louis, Missouri. Speaking on the release date, cmfrt. and Jaheem say, “This is song is an ode to 4/20, a popular day of celebration for smokers around the world. It is definitely a fun song, nothing too serious but a vibe nonetheless.”
The song is also accompanied by a trippy and cerebral visual which was nominated for the International Music Video Awards!
Expanding further on the release, the duo says, “cmfrt. pushed this song to get a full release to prove to Jaheem that he is talented and the masses will listen to and appreciate him more than he knows.”
cmfrt. and Jaheem cite “the likes of neo soul artist Raphael Saadiq, to rap heavyweights Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West, to underground rap and producer duo LUCKI & 19yearold” as some of their influences, but is is clear that the duo are creating a universe of their own.
We have added Facelift to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in the wider discography of all of the artists!
