Setting the vibe with a glistening, celestial frequency and intricate vocal textures, we are already hypnotized by Joey Grace‘s new single, Biorobot.
The rising producer, singer and live artist from Long Beach, California was inspired by “the haunting true story of humans being referred to as biorobots when they were made to dispose of radioactive debris during the Chernobyl catastrophe of 1986.”
An intense subject matter, but one that resonates in a time like this, when sentient beings on the planet are seen as so disposable. As the song expands, we experience cosmic risers, percussive details before an industrial synth-heavy soundscape immerses us.
The hybrid sonic landscape of Biorobot is exquisite and Joey Grace demonstrates her high end mastery, with elements of hyperpop, synth pop and industrial, as she takes us on a cerebral journey through time, space and emotion.
Speaking on her artistry, Joey says, “I refer to my music style as sexygloom“, which makes sense as we are mesmerized by the atmospheric vocals, juxtaposed with the subversive production.
Joey Grace has also created the music for an NFT entitled “Biorobot” which can be found on OpenSea.io. Joey cites Laurie Anderson, Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel as some of her influences, but it is clear that the rising artist is creating a universe of her own.
We have added Biorobot to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in Joey Grace’s wider discography including It’s Mine and Racer.
