Immersing us with a pulsing and cerebral texture with vocal detailing singing “hey, ho”, Anne Bennett opens her latest release, Fabulous Creature with the introspective lyrics, “I close my eyes and enter the dark side of my mind, where I’m alive…”
As the song expands, we experience a hybrid dark-rock meets electronica energy, and we are hypnotized. Anne cites Siouxsie and the Banshees, Kate Bush, Lana Del Rey, PJ Harvey and Bauhaus as some of her influences, but it is clear that she is creating a universe of her own.
Anne Bennett’s sound gives us drama and industrial bass with catchy hooks and high concept lyricism, which we adore. Fabulous Creature is an 80s dark wave meets goth electronica hybrid which takes us on an intimate journey with the artist as she is “finally accepting herself for who she really is and realising that it’s okay to be different”.
Lyrical highlights include the hook, “I’m a Fabulous Creature, I’m a phantom inside your head…” and the profound and poetic, “all my demons, floating around like dust, will I survive another night or am I buried alive?”
We have added Fabulous Creature to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in Anne Bennett‘s wider discography including Hell Couldn’t Keep Me, Heavy Hand and Highway Boys.
