Setting the tone with an immersive synth and keys, we are already hypnotized by Gateway Bridge, the first track of Nathan Colberg’s EP, Dream On, Kid..
“Street lights, and a millions other signs…” sings the rising artist from Charlottesville emotively, who has already amassed over ten million streams.
We love Nathan Colberg’s soundscape and vocal production, combined with his vulnerable yet optimistic lyricism.
The EP, Dream On, Kid. is produced with Jason Mater (Encanto, High School Musical the Series) and Chumba (Dua Lipa, Maroon 5), and has songwriting contributions from Sam Martin (John Legend, Maroon 5, Jason DeRulo) and Bo Rinehart (Needtobreathe).
The second track on the EP is Gold, and features the opening lyrics, “searching for a higher purpose…” which cements Nathan Colberg‘s intention with his artistry. He sings about the contradictions in the world and “how all we have is Gold”. High concepts and an atmospheric sonic landscape are helping cement Nathan’s unique aesthetic as an artist.
Oblivion is the third track and has a more 80s vibe with enigmatic production and emotive lyricism. Next up is Around The World which features the visual lyrics, “I can see colours like the Northern Lights”, as Nathan consciously paints a picture of our beautiful planet that he has yet to explore, but how the universe is truly inside each of us.
Hold You Tonight give us a more emotive energy as our protagonist sings, “If you wanted to, I could hold you tonight” cementing his intentions and solidarity for his muse. Finally, Rest In You takes on a more intimate BPM as an outro for the record, maintaining the exquisite soundscape that we have experienced thus far, as Nathan sings about his connection with his muse.
We love the Dream On, Kid. experience, the title of which serves as “both a touch of self deprecation to Nathan’s ambition as a writer and yet also a message of hope to keep going when hope seems all but lost.”
On his Dream On, Kid. release tour, Nathan will perform the EP in full with a band along with hand selected songs from his growing catalogue of music which we have been exploring, including Calm.
Oblivion has also been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and we can’t wait to hear more from Nathan Colberg!
