Immersing us with a textural frequency that resembles wind, followed by a moody synth and helicopter sound, we are already mesmerized the opening track of Doruk Doyran‘s EP, Psychic.
Your Love Is Holy goes on to expand and features textures with melodic details as the minimalist soundscape is joined by ethereal guitar. As the guitar rises, so do the hairs on our arms as the emotive nature of the track is unveiled. Half way through we experience drums and a more robust vibe. Speaking on the track, Doruk Doyran, a rising multi-instrumentalist and composer from Berlin says, “Your Love is Holy is about the feeling of being detached from the outer world and being immersed in the eternal bliss within.”
Doruk cites Pink Floyd, Santana, Radiohead, Sting and classical composers as his influences, which we can feel coming through in this opus, although it is clear that Doruk is forming a conscious universe of his own.
The second track on the EP is the title track, Psychic and features a more cerebral soundscape at first. Driven by his desire to “discover something new and experiment”, Doruk describes Psychic as “completely experimental and spiritual”. The track also features guitar which becomes the main protagonist of the song half way through.
Next up is Thyrsus which opens with an enigmatic electric guitar. Doruk says this is about “the artistic and mystical celebration of Dionysus’ life.” Dionysus is the god of fruit, vegetation, fertility, insanity, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, festivity and theatre in ancient Greek mythology. We are enamoured by the guitar in this piece and the emotive nature by which Doruk performs as the layers of guitar expand.
Finally we have Juliet’s Tears which Doruk describes as “a mere catharsis”. The song opens with dimensional guitars with bold and hypnotizing chords fused with a Santana-esque electric guitar performance. It is clear how much emotion went into this record and we are in awe.
Doruk leaves us with the quote, “Being in love is to be in the heart of the universe” which we couldn’t agree with more. We are grateful for Doruk Doyran‘s perspective on love energy and excited to listen to more music from the rising multi-disciplinary artist. We have also added the whole EP to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
