With what feels like the pressing of a record button, we commence the journey of Three Eyes‘ latest release, an album called Junior. With synthetic and immersive frequencies, reminiscent of a video game before we are met by a pulsing and divergent bass line, we are already hypnotized.
Bonding With Captor has us experiencing a psychedelic and sometimes chaotic soundscape that is nonetheless cohesive and intricately designed to evoke maximum emotions. About two thirds through the track is when we start to experience vocal details, as percussion expands, the song teases a breakdown, but is reignited with more passion and dynamism from the rising artist from San Francisco.
The second track on the record is Too Late? and takes us on an enigmatic journey, akin to a DMT trip, with obvious elements of psychedelia fused with more meditative but synthetic energies.
It’s the studio created textures that really help dimensionalize this body of work, fused with electronica. We love the glistening highs and are transfixed by the ethereal and cyber vocals that come in at the end of the song.
A Seer Weak is the third track on the record and features a brief narration from The Tortured Orator reminiscent of the delivery in Baz Luhrman’s Romeo + Juliet by Leonardo Di Caprio as he concludes his monologue with the words “what kind of wounded mind could you be?”
This takes us into Defendant in Servitude, which delivers a moodier energy with stomps and atmospheric instrumentation with shooting percussive details that truly have us transported.
Chapel Perilous which has a host of collaborators across different mediums features a conscious rap verse from Sabelo Cyprian referencing synchronicities, the Anunaki, secret societies, metaphysics and more quantum depth.
Rapper and artist, A Dub has a verse which references his perspective on the system and the human condition. Eva Omega is also featured on the track delivering vocal textures.
The sixth track is Junior, the title track of the record, and has a synth that reminds us of 17 Years by Ratatat, which we love. The cosmic details are vibrant and the strings make the hairs on our arms stand on end.
Up next is Gregor which takes on a more pulsating approach with a super vibrant and dynamic kick fused with celestial frequencies that has us dancing. Some cerebral and philosophical vocal details draw us further in.
Mammon’s Lament 2 features vocals immediately, as they expand and become more present with a credited feature from SA. Three Eyes has designed this as the most R&B pop sound on the record, but with his signature psychedelia and broad instrumentation spectrum.
Ninth is Bathtime at Avernus which has a more urgent energy, a great track to run or work out to. The high synths are a trip and really start to become super present on the track as it builds giving us that speed and magnetic essence that we crave.
Ladder is next and opens with sci-fi and cerebral tones with a reverse sound and some vocal details, but also nods back to the original playful energy exhibited at the start of this opus.
Track number eleven is Reunion and features Sabelo Cyprian once again, who raps about Neo and The Matrix, further establishing the conscious energy of the record. The Tortured Orator also make another appearance, instilling further wisdom.
Finally, we are met with A Dream of Choice which features elegant guitar and saxophone, and feels like a more organic conclusion, with live instrumentations, to the cerebral adventure that we have just been on.
We love the record which has fast become our new obsession, and have added Chapel Perilous to our New Music Spotify playlist! We have also been immersing ourselves in Three Eyes self-titled album from 2020.
“As delightfully unpredictable as any album could be, the twelve tracks on Junior speak volumes, by way of the relentlessly ambitious, highly imaginative and undeniably innovative music on display.
‘From vivid, cinematic melodies to vibrant, exciting soundscapes, uniquely designed with a true sense of adventurism, the sheer diversity of Junior is every bit as enticing as the professionalism found within the production. Featuring an array of sensational guest-stars in the mix, all lending their time & talents in efforts to make Junior the most intricate, involved, and addictive record in the Three Eyes catalog yet to-date.
“Proudly blurring the lines between what you think you know about music & the vastly unexplored chasm of sounds never heard before by human ears, Three Eyes embraces creative freedom with open arms, allowing the music to organically shape itself via digital means. It’s a recipe that guarantees each and every track on Junior has something fresh to offer. While Three Eyes continually sharpens their otherworldly skillset, this electronic artist levels-up again in 2022, with this new set-list of songs that hits different in all the right ways, with technique & ideas second to none.”
